The Sussex Yacht Club’s new chief SUP instructor, Sarah Parker, is busy preparing to lead the new Sussex Yacht Club SUP at Shoreham. Operating from the club's new SUPshack alongside her team from July, planning and programming is now underway for a summer of fun on the water.
SYC SUP club is affiliated with BSUPA (British Stand Up Paddleboard Association) and will be delivering BSUPA syllabus and training. Sarah has an excellent team of experienced and fun instructors and trainee instructors to run the sessions.
With many years’ of experience, Sarah started paddle boarding in 2014, buying her first board in 2015. Quickly falling in love with the sport, Sarah trained as a BSUPA level 1 instructor in 2017. With an impress- ive100 hours of instruction under her belt, Sarah recently qualified as a BSUPA level 2 instructor. She is also qualified to teach SUPfit, SUPyoga and SUP-Pilates, which she plans to incorporate in some of the sessions.
Sarah takes to the water as often as both weather and other work commitments allow. When not out on a board, Sarah is a part time flight instructor, teaching commercial pilots 3 days a week. She has been flying light aircraft and teaching pilots for over 20 years. And that’s not all. Also a fitness instructor, Sarah teaches a wide variety of group exercise classes, such as circuits, spin, Zumba, pilates and many more.
A range of planned SUP sessions are due to start from the end of July. These will run from the new shack, which is currently receiving a fantastic redesign, and the introduction of a new pontoon for safe launch and recovery of paddleboarders.
The team has planned a range of sessions, from beginners upwards. Each will comprise a ground briefing, demo and practice, before attendees are then taken into the water for a 1 to 2 hour session, followed by a debrief. The school has 12 inflatable Fatstick 10’6” boards, which are great for all levels.

Suitable for beginners as an intro to paddleboarding.
These are 1 - 2 hours on the water as a way to try paddleboarding, river paddling, the location or our boards for one of your first times.
Sessions aimed at fitness and fun including race techniques, SUPyoga, SUPpilates, SUPfitness, step back turn workshops, fun races as well as a warm up and cool down
This is a 2 hour session involving a nature tour along the river and the opportunity to protect the local environment by picking up litter along the way
Bespoke sessions can also be arranged for you and your friends on a particular day.
